Who we are
The two partners running this project are -
FARMA – The National Farmers’ Retail and Markets Association and its predecessors worked with farmers’ markets since they first started in the UK in 1997. Their work both nationally and internationally means they are ideally positioned to share knowledge and expertise.
Plunkett – have been helping to develop farming businesses since 1919. Their approach is to develop sustainable businesses that enrich the communities they operate in.
What we are doing
Through the Making local Food Work programme we will be helping to establish groups of famers’ markets throughout England so that they can -
• Plan, and reach, their goals
• Work together effectively as groups
• Create the best farmers’ markets
Creating busy, vibrant markets will boost the businesses of individual producers and provide fresh, quality local produce of known provenance to communities.
The project offers a package of support and advice to farmers’ markets who want to work together. Many markets already work in unofficial clusters or groups, recognising the benefits of collaborative working such as shared resources – stalls, canopies - and joint promotions - website, calendars, adverts.
The package covers
• Creating vision and strategy
• Forming the best legal structure for the group
• Writing business plan
• A FARMA retail ‘HealthCheck’
• Promotion and marketing for markets
• Administrative and financial systems
