Customers at a CFE community food outlet
Community Food Enterprise (CFE), based in Newham, work in partnership with diverse communities in East London helping them to access good food. They have a particular commitment to working with low-income communities.
Making Local Food Work will help CFE establish a distribution hub for local and sustainably produced food. It will supply a variety of outlets including community food projects, neighbourhood shops, restaurants, schools and local businesses.
During the first part of the project, CFE worked with East Anglia Food Link to try to increase their purchasing direct from farmers in the East of England. A report on this work explores the challenges of increasing local supply in food access projects.
