Skillshare Mentoring

Your food enterprise could benefit from a business mentor

If your business concerns food and is community run, you could be entitled to a FREE business mentor from the Making Local Food Work programme.

The support is provided over a three month period from mentors which are chosen as leaders from similar successful food enterprises

If you would like to register for support from a Skillshare business mentor, please download the Mentee Registration Form

A Skillshare Mentor will work with you to:-

  • Increase your skills and knowledge
  • Develop your career and networks
  • Help your social enterprise succeed and grow

What is mentoring?
Mentoring support is essentially a service which offers practical hands-on support and personal development which may include:

  • Knowledge sharing, brainstorming, blue-sky thinking
  • Working through professional and personal development issues
  • Signposting to specialist advice and support
  • Other practical services specific to each business, in particular technical knowledge e.g. suppliers of equipment, layout of a commuity garden etc

Mentoring is usually provided through a 1-2-1 relationship, and is likened to having a ‘buddy’ or a ‘critical friend’.

How does it work?
Unlike conventional business advice you will set the agenda for what you want to learn and your mentor will work with you on an equal basis to act as your sounding board.  This support can be provided to staff, managers or board members through a face-to-face contact, followed up by telephone and email.

If you would like to receive a paper registration form or you’re unsure whether Skillshare is right for you please feel free to contact us direct:

This scheme can't offer detailed business advice as this is already provided by another project of the Making Local Food Work programme called Enterprise Support “Specialist Consultancy”.
