Volunteer with the 'Mapping Local Food Webs Project' in your region 

Six pilot mapping projects will start in early 2009 in; Hastings, Totnes, Knutsford, Sheffield, Kenilworth and Leicester. 

People wishing to volunteer on the mapping project will be supported by a Regional Coordinator from their region.   Our Regional Coordinators will offer training, guidance and support to volunteers in these locations working on the mapping project.

What can you do as a ‘mapping food local food webs volunteer?

 

  • Help to interview consumers and learn about their experiences of local food where you live
  • Visit shop keepers and discover if sourcing local food is important for their business
  • Speak to restaurant owners to see if they see local and season produce as an important part of their menu planning
  • Meet producers and learn more about farming practices where you live
  • Get involved in planning workshops for residents of your town or city and find out what local food means to them

By mapping your local food web you could help your community by….

 

  • Building links within the community amongst residents, shop keepers, farmers and
  • Developing research skills amongst local people
  • Achieving a greater understanding of some of the challenges facing local food webs
  • Creating opportunities to influence local policy and planning decisions
  • Designing action plans for local projects in your area
