Invitation to tender - “Evaluating the Impact: CSA as an agent for change”

The Soil Association is looking for a research partner to tackle head on some of the common questions raised about Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). The central aim of the research is to understand the social, environmental and economic impacts of CSA and to gather evidence on some specific areas of enquiry with the cooperation of selected CSA projects.

An important aspect of MLFW is to evaluate the work undertaken and to help the local food sector become more effective. Part of our evaluation work would be to investigate whether CSA, as a localised approach to the food system, does promote sustainability, offer greater local control and strengthen communities and their connection to the land and where their food comes from. The research should demonstrate the opportunities for CSA to be used as a vehicle for positive change within communities, and specifically in its potential to bring about more sustainable and resilient practices within the food system, for both farmers and consumers: when it works to what extent does it deliver in these areas and against well recognized social, economic and environmental indicators?
