Collaborative Communities

How to increase the reach of local food in your area

Colne-u-copia, local food system in West YorkshireLocal Food Systems has been a pioneering project. When we first invited groups to take part in the project we were overwhelmed by applications from enterprises that had already taken the first steps towards working together; something we were very encouraged by. Although we were only able to work with a handful of these groups, one of the driving forces throughout the project has been to make sure the lessons learnt by everyone are collected and shared, so that other enterprises can collaborate in a meaningful way, extending the reach of local food for their communities.

We have created a series of reports which focus on the key aspects of collaborating for community food enterprises, drawing on information collected from individual members of community food enterprises, group sessions and project officers throughout the duration of the project. The aim of the series of documents is to inspire other community food enterprises to explore collaboration by showcasing successful examples of local food systems – groups of organisations that are united in ethical and sustainable principles, working together to improve access to local food for a wider portion of the community.

The first report focuses on learning from the project as a whole. Download Exploring the growth of the community food sector through cross-collaboration

The series focuses on four themes:

We have also created a tool to help you map the local food webs in your area as a way of planning collaboration between community food enterprises. You can download this tool here
